New Clients and Puppy and Kitten Checks

Your puppy or kitten's first visit is free

Bringing home a new puppy or kitten is so exciting, and we would love to meet them! Your new puppy or kitten's first visit with us includes a free of charge consultation (any additional vaccines or flea and worming treatments will be charged as usual). It is a chance for us to give them a full health check, get to know you both, and make sure you have everything you need to get off to a great start.

What happens at a puppy or kitten's first vet visit?

At their first visit our vet will give your new friend a nose to tail examination, checking their heart, eyes, ears, teeth, skin and coat, and looking for any problems they may have been born with such as hernias or heart murmurs. We will also talk you through:

• Vaccinations and when their next ones are due
• Worming, flea, tick and heartworm prevention
• What and how much to feed them
• Microchipping and registering them on the NSW Pet Registry
• Desexing and the right time to do it for your pet
• Toilet training, biting and settling in at home
• Pet insurance
• Puppy preschool for new puppies

We give lots of treats and cuddles at this first visit, as we want your puppy or kitten to learn that coming to the vet is a good thing!

What should I bring to my puppy or kitten's first vet visit?

Please bring any paperwork you were given by the breeder, shelter or rescue group, including vaccination and worming records and microchip details. Puppies should come in on a lead or in a carrier, and kittens should always come in a secure carrier. It also helps to write down any questions you have before you come in.

New to Five Dock Vet with an older pet?

New clients of all ages are warmly welcome. If you are moving to the area or changing vets, you can ask your previous clinic to email your pet's history to info@fivedockvet.com.au before your first appointment, so our vets have all the information they need.
