Greyhound vet care in Five Dock
At Five Dock Vet we absolutely love working with greyhounds. They truly are the most noble of dog breeds and they always know how to make us laugh.
Why do greyhounds need special veterinary care?
Greyhounds and other sighthounds such as whippets, wolfhounds, deerhounds and Italian greyhounds have special needs and differences to other dog breeds, including:
- Different blood values, such as an increased red blood cell level compared to other dogs
- Unique diseases such as corns
- Electrolyte problems that can occur during anaesthesia
- An increased risk of bleeding during dental procedures
- Challenging dental health
- An increased risk of osteosarcoma
Is anaesthetic safe for greyhounds?
All of our vets and nurses are familiar with the unique requirements of greyhounds, and we use specific anaesthetic and pre-surgery protocols to ensure their safety. We can also perform surgeries unique to this breed, including flexor tenotomy for corns.
