Hospital care for dogs and cats in Five Dock
Five Dock Vet is a fully equipped veterinary hospital, which means that when your pet is unwell and needs more than medication at home, we are able to admit them and treat them with us. Our vets and amazing team of nurses work closely together to care for our hospital patients, and we treat them like our own family while they are with us.
When does a pet need to be hospitalised?
Some of the common reasons pets stay in hospital with us include:
- Dehydration from vomiting and diarrhoea that needs IV fluids
- Monitoring and pain relief after surgery
- Urinary problems
- Medications that need to be given by injection or into the vein
- Pets who are not eating and need nursing support
- Close monitoring while we work out what is wrong
What care will my pet receive in hospital?
Depending on what your pet needs, their care in hospital may include IV fluids, pain relief and other injectable medications, regular checks of their temperature, heart rate and breathing, repeat blood tests to see how they are going, and help with eating. Our in house blood testing machines, digital x-rays and ultrasound mean we can keep a close eye on their progress without delays. And of course, they get plenty of attention from our nurses!
Can my pet stay in hospital overnight?
Stable patients may be kept overnight in our hospital. However, pets who are critically unwell need to be monitored by staff throughout the night, and for these patients we will organise a transfer to an emergency hospital for overnight care. Our vets will always talk you through the safest option for your pet.
Will I get updates while my pet is in hospital?
We know how hard it is to leave your pet with us. Our team will keep you updated on how they are going and let you know as soon as there is any change. Visits can be organised at pre-arranged times so you can see your pet while they are with us.
