Why is my dog limping?
Just like humans, dogs and cats can have pain in their muscles, joints and bones, which causes daily suffering. While the cause of these problems ranges from minor soft tissue complaints to severe joint and bone issues, any time a pet is in pain it is worth a visit to us to see what is going on.
How do I know if my cat has arthritis?
Cats are very good at hiding pain, so arthritis is often missed. Signs to look out for include not jumping up onto furniture like they used to, sleeping more, grooming less, or going to the toilet outside the litter tray. If you notice any of these changes, it is worth bringing them in for a check.
What happens at a lameness consultation?
The consultation usually includes a full lameness assessment as well as a musculoskeletal examination. After the vet has made their assessment, they will decide if your pet just requires some medication, or if they are more concerned they may recommend further tests, such as using our digital x-ray machine to look for signs of bone and joint disease, or our ultrasound to look for soft tissue injuries.
What treatments are there for arthritis and joint problems in pets?
If the injury requires surgery, we can offer orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures at our hospital to fix the problem. We are also able to offer the latest and most effective treatments for orthopaedic disease, such as immunologic and disease modifying drugs for arthritis.
